THRISSUR: Thiruvambady Devaswom Secretary K Giri Kumar said that if the central government does not grant more concessions, the Thrissur Pooram fireworks will become mere memory. He also demanded relaxation of restrictions on fireworks. Giri Kumar said the directions in the order issued by the central government are impractical and the order should be amended. The Thiruvambady Devaswom Board also stated that the attempt to sabotage the Pooram fireworks should be stopped.
35 regulations are mainly mentioned in the new order. There should be a distance of 200 meters between the place of firework and the fire line, and 100 meters between the fire line and people. There are no facilities for this in Thekkinkadu Maidan. According to the new regulation, people are not allowed even in the vicinity of Swaraj Round.
Revenue Minister K Rajan also responded on this issue. He said the order issued by the Center is destroying all the charm of the Thrissur Pooram Fireworks and is a move to destroy the Pooram. Such orders are made by people who have no knowledge about fireworks. These are challenges towards Kerala and Pooram lovers. The minister also explained that a letter will be sent to the Prime Minister, the concerned minister and two MPs from Kerala showing the seriousness of the matter.
Changes to be made in order
1. The order requires a distance of 100 meters between the fire line and people. It should be reduced to 60 to 70 meters.
2. There should be a distance of 100 meters between the temporary shed and the fire line. It should be reduced to 15 meters.
3. The requirement that fireworks should be at a place of 250 meters away from hospitals, schools and nursing homes should also be changed.
4. The condition to obtain no objection certificate from hospitals and nursing homes should be introduced.
