KOTTAYAM: Beverages Corporation has chosen a name for the brandy it plans to produce at Malabar Distilleries, a public sector undertaking. However, it has not been released. The name cannot be revealed immediately as a case is pending in the high court against accepting public's opinion for choosing a name. BEVCO can only announce the new name if it gets the court's permission.

The Beverages Corporation had offered a prize of Rs 10,000 for the best name for the brandy. Following this, around 40,000 names were received. Jawan Rum, produced at its plant in Thiruvalla, is the liquor that BEVCO is presently marketing on its own. If the court allows, the name will be announced on February 21 at the inauguration of the construction of the new plant in Palakkad by the government.
