THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Talks in connection with the selection of candidates for the assembly elections are in the final stages. A rough plan has been reached on the most promising seats, but the central leadership has made it clear that an official announcement is not needed soon. It is possible that the candidates in Kerala will also be announced along with the list in other states. However, the party has instructed the leaders who have secured seats to start working in the constituencies.

While BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar is seeking mandate in Nemom constituency, former union minister V Muraleedharan is likely to contest in Kazhakkoottam and K Surendran is likely to contest in Manjeswaram. Senior leader P K Krishnadas is being considered as candidate in Kattakada and NDA ally Shaun George is being considered in Pala. It is indicated that Anoop Antony will be in the fray in Thiruvalla and Sandeep Vachaspati in Chengannur. Former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan will seek mandate from Aranmula constituency. All these are important constituencies where the candidates have been agreed upon.

Former DGP R Sreelekha's name is being actively considered in Vattiyoorkavu. The central leadership will take a final decision on this soon. Sreelekha had earlier indicated that she would not be in the fray. Karamana Jayan and Chenkal Rajasekharan Nair are the preferred candidates in Thiruvananthapuram constituency. Although M T Ramesh's name is being heard in Thrissur, reports suggest that a surprise candidate will be here. Shobha Surendran is likely to contest either in Kayamkulam or Palakkad.

The BJP has decided to give some seats to Twenty20 in Ernakulam. The BJP will contest directly in Tripunithura and Aluva. The party leadership has clarified that the final decision on the candidature of NDA ally leaders Thushar Vellappally and Sabu Jacob will be taken after consulting the central leadership.
