RANNI: The bodies of students who went missing in the strong undercurrents Monday evening while bathing in the Pampa River have been recovered. They have been identified as Chris Biju (17), son of Biju Varghese of Mylapra Vadakkemattappally and Joshin Binu (17), son of Binu of Konni Vellappara Kidanga. The two were Plus Two students of Mylapra Mount Bethani School.

A group of ten friends came to bathe in Kalarickal Ghat at Aithala in Ranni last evening. The students, who came to their friend’s house, went to bathe in the river. In the meanwhile, Joshin Biju got stuck in the undercurrents and when Chris Biju tried to rescue him, he also was swept away. The others retreated after sensing danger. The police and fire forces searched till 8:30 pm last night, but were unable to find them. The search was later called off due to adverse weather conditions. The search resumed Tuesday morning at 6 am and the bodies were found.
