THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A case has been registered against Rahul Mamkootathil MLA on a sexual abuse complaint. The FIR was registered at the Valiyamala police station in the capital city. The case has been handed over to Nemom Police Station. The action was based on the complaint filed by the survivor to the chief minister.

The case has been filed under non-bailable sections including rape on the pretext of marriage and forced abortion. The sections that can carry a sentence of imprisonment from ten years to life imprisonment have been imposed.

The survivor came to the chief minister's office with a woman at around 4:45 pm on Thursday. She explained the matter in detail and submitted a written complaint. She also produced the WhatsApp chats, voice messages, pictures and medical reports as evidence. She left at 4:50 pm.

The chief minister later called police chief Ravada Chandrasekhar on the phone, but he was not in station. The crime branch chief arrived at 5:30 pm and received the complaint. A meeting was convened at the crime branch headquarters and then the recording of the complainant's statement began at a fast pace. It was completed by 11 pm last night. She will be produced in the court and her confidential statement will be taken.

It is believed that Rahul will approach the high court today seeking an anticipatory bail. Soon after the complaint was filed, Rahul switched off his phone and he could not be found. The MLA's office in Palakkad is found locked.
