Charred gold chain and slippers recovered from flight to keep in Ranjitha’s memory

KOZHENCHERRY: Ranjitha G Nair (40) of Pullad, who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, was laid to rest last evening. Her son Induchoodan lit the funeral pyre. Ithika, her daughter and other close relatives were inconsolable.


Ranjitha died in the crash when she was planning to leave her job in the UK and join government service in Kerala. Her body was identified 11 days after the tragedy. The body, which reached Thiruvananthapuram airport at 7 am yesterday, was received by relatives.

Many people paid respects to the body, which was kept for public homage at Pullad Sree Vivekananda High School, where she studied. Minister V N Vasavan laid a wreath on behalf of the state government. The body brought home was kept in the middle of her new house under construction near her family house in Pullad. Her mother, Thulasi Kuttyamma, her children and relatives were inconsolable. She was laid to rest at 4.30 pm. Her son Induchoodan and Ranjitha's nephews Kashinath and Sriram lit the pyre.

The authorities later handed over her gold chain and ring to keep in her memory. The things were found near Ranjitha’s seat 19F. The gold chain was 90 percent burnt.
The gold chain, ring, unburned part of her clothes and slippers were recovered from the flight. These were given to the relatives in a special box. The box was kept in the ambulance when people were paying homage to the body kept at Pullad Vivekananda School. The box was brought home along with the body.
