CITU branch member arrested for vandalising Oommen Chandy's memorial in Parassala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A CITU branch member has been arrested for vandalising Oommen Chandy's memorial in Parassala. Shiju D was arrested by the Parassala police. Oommen Chandy's memorial, which was inaugurated the other day, was demolished yesterday. Shaiju is a member of the CITU and Ponvila branches. The Congress had protested in the area alleging that the memorial was vandalized by DYFI workers.

The flex of CPM which was nearby earlier was also broken. The gathering of Congress workers in the area yesterday also created a possibility of conflict. The area is a stronghold of the CPM. At the same time, the incident has been politically discussed in the context of the Pudupally by-election. The Youth Congress accused the CPM of being disturbed by people's love for Oommen Chandy. Left supporters have posted on social media that it is a move by Congress to get sympathy.
