Club rivalry ends in street fight during Christmas carol; 10 people hospitalised in Alappuzha

CHARUMMOODU: Around 10 people, including women and children, were injured in a clash between carol gangs in Karimulackal. The court remanded 18 people arrested in the incident.

The clash took place at around 11 pm on Wednesday during a carol performance by the Yuva and Liberty clubs at Thadathivila junction. The carol group, led by the Yuva Club, consisted of around 50 people, including children and women. The Liberty Club, which was formed after splitting the Yuva Club, also participated in the carol.

The FIR states that the clash was triggered after Yuva club questioned the obscene language used by Liberty club during the carol. The members of the Youth Club are Abdul Salam (47) of Karimulaikkal SA Manzil, Vinesh (41), his wife Keerthy (33), their children Sri Ganesh (13), Shravan (5), Nayana (28), daughter Tamara (6), Raju Shalayam Monisha (31), and club member Ziyad (25). They are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nooranad. The violence was carried out using wire rods, stones, pieces of wood, etc.

Liberty club members Shyam Lal (33), Akhil G (29), Shabu (44), Harikrishnan (27), Sanu (25), Abhinath (19), Shamnas (19), Dheeraj (20), Ananthu (25), Rishi Madhav (28), Jithu S (24), Srimon (18), Amal A (24), Amit (19), Aromal (20), Siddique (21), Ashwin (25) and Akhilesh (22) were remanded.
