CM to fly to US for follow-up treatment; to return after a week

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is flying to USA for follow-up treatment. He will be flying to America via Dubai Friday midnight. He will be seeking treatment in the USA for a week at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.


The chief minister is flying to America at a time when there are serious issues in connection with the health sector of the state. Dr Haris Chirakkal, head of the Urology Department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, was criticized for pointing the problems faced by Thiruvananthapuram Medical College via a Facebook post. In the meantime, a building at Kottayam Medical College collapsed and a woman had died. This had sparked a controversy. There are also widespread protests demanding the resignation of Health Minister Veena George.
