KOCHI: A parent of a fifth-class boy levelled allegation against the Thrikkakara Cochin Public School. The parents alleged that retaliatory action was taken against the boy. The parents said that he was made to run in the sun and made him sit alone in a dark room for being late to school. The school authorities also summoned the parents.
The parents also alleged that the school authorities said that they would give the child's TC. The boy’s parents and relatives have decided to stage protests. There was an argument between the parents and the school authorities. The parents demanded the suspension of the principal. However, the school authorities said they have not punished the child. Their justification is that the child was made to run as part of exercise.
Education Minister V Sivankutty has ordered an investigation into the incident. The minister said discrimination towards children will not be allowed in any school under any circumstances. Neither the management nor the teacher has the right to treat a child like this. He said that he can advise, but locking him in a dark room in a way that affects his mental state is unacceptable. The Ernakulam Deputy Director of Education has been instructed to investigate the incident and submit an immediate report. The minister clarified that further action will be taken after getting the report.
