KANNUR: A clash broke out during a protest march led by the Congress in Payyannur demanding the resignation of TI Madhusoodanan MLA. The incident took place during the protest held on Saturday evening. The Congress alleged that CPM workers entered the protest and attacked the participants. Congress leaders claimed that the attack was carried out by goons linked to the MLA.

The protest march was organised by the Congress block committee following allegations made by CPM district committee member V. Kunjikrishnan against the party leadership. According to the Congress, as the march reached Payyannur, CPM workers who were present in the area entered the protest and assaulted the demonstrators. Youth Congress workers were reportedly attacked.

The Congress alleged that around 30 CPM workers were involved in the attack. Several people were injured, including the Payyannur mandalam president of the Youth Congress and the Kannur district vice-president of the KSU. The attack took place despite the presence of police at the spot.
