Cop sustains injuries in attack on train at Chingavanam in Kottayam

KOTTAYAM: A cop sustained injuries after attacked by a train passenger. The incident happened around 10 pm last night when the train passed Chingavanam in Kottayam. A passenger on the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Malabar Express attacked the police.

The policeman identified as Sanal Kumar of Chengannur, who was on duty on the Kollam-Ernakulam route, was attacked. The accused, Anil Kumar of Pathanamthitta, attacked the policeman with a knife. He sustained minor injuries.

A verbal dispute broke out between drunk Anil Kumar and the TTE. When a police officer intervened, he was attacked with a knife. The accused was caught by other policemen and train passengers. Sanal Kumar, who continued his duty even after being injured in the attack, reached Ernakulam and sought treatment.
