THRISSUR: Kunnamkulam CPM branch secretary was hacked by assailants on Sunday night at Thrissur. The incident took place at Mallur Kadavu, in Pazhanji. Mithun, a native of Mangad, was hacked by the assailants. The attack took place near the Malor Kadavu Kothottu temple at around 6 pm. Four people were taken into custody by Kunnamkulam police in the incident.

Gautham, Vishnu, Rakesh and Arun, all natives of Mangad, are now in police custody. A verbal altercation with Mithun's brother is believed to have ended up in the attack. Mithun, who suffered injuries, was admitted to Kunnamkulam Taluk Hospital. Police blamed drug addicts to be behind the crime. However, the CPM alleged the crime to be the handiwork of BJP workers.
