THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary MV Govindan said that the CPM has never formed any alliance with the RSS at any point. Govindan also clarified his statement regarding alleged cooperation with the RSS during the Emergency. He said that what he meant was that during the people's movement against the Emergency, everyone had come together as part of a broader struggle and that this was misinterpreted.
"My statement was misinterpreted. Some are claiming that I made a communal statement. History should be viewed as history. I had said that the Emergency was semi-fascist in nature, and slogans were raised then against authoritarian rule. The Janata Party was not a continuation of the Jan Sangh. It was a broader movement comprising various parties. The RSS was not a dominant force during that time. I was referring to the nationwide public uprising. It was the Congress that aligned with the RSS," Govindan said.
He reiterated firmly that the CPM has never had a political alliance with the RSS—"not in the past, not now, and not in the future." "It was the Congress party that had previously collaborated with the RSS during the Vimochana Samaram. EMS had explicitly stated that the party did not want RSS votes. The CPM has always upheld a secular stance. RSS and Congress formed alliances in places like Vadakara and Beypore. The Left had defeated even such an alliance," Govindan added.
