THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The number of coaches on the Thiruvananthapuram–Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express via Alappuzha will be increased from 8 to 16.

At present, the train has 530 seats. With the addition of new coaches, it will be able to accommodate 1,508 passengers. Earlier, the Thiruvananthapuram–Kasaragod Vande Bharat running via Kottayam had its coaches increased to 20 in January.

Considering the heavy passenger rush, the Railway Board has decided to add more coaches to seven Vande Bharat train routes under Southern Railway.

The other routes include: Secunderabad–Tirupati, Chennai Egmore–Tirunelveli, Madurai–Bengaluru Cantonment, Deoghar–Varanasi, Howrah–Rourkela, and Indore–Nagpur.
