THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan who officially announced the passing of V.S. Achuthanandan. Paying tribute, he said the party mourns the loss of comrade V.S., one of the most prominent leaders in the history of the CPM, who played an unparalleled role in communist politics in both Kerala and India.

"V.S.'s mortal remains will first be taken to the AKG Centre for Research and Studies, where the public will be allowed to pay their respects. Later in the night, his body will be taken to his residence. At 9 AM the next day, it will be moved to Durbar Hall for public viewing, followed by the official farewell ceremony. In the afternoon, the body will be transported to Alappuzha. On Wednesday, the remains will be taken to the CPM District Committee Office in Alappuzha. The funeral rites will take place in the afternoon at the Valiyachudukadu cremation ground. Party flags will be flown at half-mast and a period of mourning will be observed,” said Govindan.

LDF Convener T.P. Ramakrishnan said that V.S. Achuthanandan’s life was a history of countless struggles aimed at solving the people’s issues, with deep involvement in the real-life problems of the people of Kerala. He highlighted that V.S. played a crucial role in shaping and leading the communist movement and the Left Democratic Front in Kerala. Despite being bedridden for a long time, he continued to respond to important public matters, Ramakrishnan noted.
