'Cyberstalking, harassment of women'; Crime Branch files case against Rahul Mamkootathil

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Almost a day after the allegations surfaced, the crime branch registered a case against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. The case was registered for alleged cyberstalking and harassment of women. The Crime Branch is also planning to record the statements of the women who gave their statements in the complaint received by the DGP. A case has been registered under the sections of the BNS for harassing women.

In a press conference, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan termed the phone leaks and the allegations against the MLA as a serious matter. Following this, the police suo motu initiated a case. A complaint had already reached officials to register a case against the MLA for forcing some women to undergo abortion after giving them fake promises of marriage. High Court lawyer Shinto Sebastian filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police.

The case was registered after careful deliberation with top police officials. The Chief Minister's office had received several complaints regarding Rahul's alleged escapades. Various women had raised complaints in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram against the MLA.
