PALAKKAD: Police and Youth Congress workers clashed during a march by the Youth Congress to the BJP office. The incident occurred during a protest march against the death threat speech made by BJP leaders against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. There was an altercation and a scuffle between the police and Congress leaders.

The leaders alleged that the police beat up the activists for no reason. After being arrested, leaders including Rahul Mamkootathil MLA and Sandeep Warrier staged a sit-in protest in front of the station. The protest demanded that a case be filed against BJP district president Prashant Sivan, secretary Omanakuttan and others for murder and incitement to riot. The protest ended after ASP Rajesh arrived and held discussions with the leaders.

Police should not play RSS

Rahul Mamkootathil MLA alleged that the police beat up Congress activists and the SI threatened to smash his face. "The police should not play RSS. The police beat up two people. They have no problem when the RSS is marching. They have a problem when there is a march to the RSS office. They said they will chop off my legs and head. Has the police registered a case? The police in Palakkad have Sanghi appeasing attitude. They can just keep that for themselves," Rahul said. Congress leader Sandeep Warrier said that he will not stop his political activities due to threats from the BJP.
