KANNUR: CPM district secretariat member T K Govindan has announced that he will contest against P K Shyamala, the wife of CPM state secretary M V Govindan, in Taliparamba. There had been opposition within the party to fielding P K Shyamala as the candidate in Taliparamba. However, ignoring these objections, the party leadership announced Shyamala as the candidate. T K Govindan said the decision was pre-planned. Following this, he decided to leave the party.

"I have been working in the party for 60 years. I've never seen such trends within the party before. The party is now taking decisions that go against its organisational principles and ethics," T K Govindan said.

Govindan also said there was opposition to the party’s decision to field T I Madhusoodanan in Payyannur, and that he had informed the party secretary about it. He added that the financial figures revealed by V Kunhikrishnan regarding the alleged election fund misappropriation in Payyannur are true. He also alleged that Madhusoodanan, the MLA, is a person under suspicion in the case.

Earlier this morning, former district committee member V Kunhikrishnan announced that he would contest against CPM candidate T I Madhusoodanan in Payyannur. Soon after that announcement, a similar rebellion has now emerged in Taliparamba as well.
