Devotees welcome Easter, hold resurrection services in churches

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Christians around the world are celebrating Easter in churches, reminiscing about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Special prayers and services are being held in churches. Today is a day of celebration for believers who have completed their fifty days of fasting. The prayers and services that began last evening are still continuing.

The services held at St Mary's Church, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram were presided over by the main priest of the Malankara Catholic Church, Cardinal Mar Baselios Clemis, Catholic Bishop. The Latin Archdiocese Archbishop Dr Thomas J Netto presided over the services at St Joseph's Cathedral, Palayam. The Syro-Malabar Church Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil presided over the services at St George's Church, Ernakulam Thiruvankulam. The Orthodox Church chief Marthoma Mathews III, Catholic Bishop at St Peter's Church, Vazhoor Kottayam. At Marthoma Jacobite Syrian Cathedral, Mulanthuruthy, the Catholic Bishop Mar Baselios Joseph presided over the prayers.

Archbishop Dr Thomas J Netto told the faithful that Easter is a message of hope and the world needs hope the most right now. Archbishop Varghese Chakkalakkal presided over the service held at Devamatha Cathedral in Kozhikode. The Archbishop said that there should be hope that all problems will be resolved.
