THODUPUZHA: Kerala Kaumudi's distinct point of view in news reporting is what makes it the people’s favourite newspaper, said West Bengal Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose. He was inaugurating the Idukki district-level “Rajathotsavam” celebrations marking 25 years of the Kottayam edition of Kerala Kaumudi, held at Madaparambil resort in Thodupuzha.

The Governor said that Kerala Kaumudi has never tried to spread hatred or fuel controversies. “It is a newspaper that always raises its voice for development. In our land, when you say ‘comrade,’ you think of P Krishna Pillai; when you say ‘leader,’ it’s K Karunakaran; and when you say ‘editor,’ it’s K Sukumaran. Kerala Kaumudi has always remained committed to journalistic values, and that’s why people stand united behind it,” he said.

He added that from its founding editor to the present day, Kerala Kaumudi has upheld the principles of true journalism, uncovering the truth with dedication. Former minister and Kerala Congress chairman PJ Joseph MLA presided over the function. Speaking at the function, he said that with more than 114 years of legacy, Kerala Kaumudi’s journey has become part of Kerala’s history.

MP Dean Kuriakose delivered the keynote address. Kerala Kaumudi Associate Editor VS Rajesh delivered the welcome speech. Biju Madhavan, chairman of SNDP Yogam Thodupuzha Union, and Adv Sangeetha Vishwanathan, chairperson of the Spices Board, also spoke. Kerala Kaumudi Kottayam unit chief R Baburaj welcomed the guests.

Governor Ananda Bose presented Kerala Kaumudi’s memento to P.J. Joseph MLA, honouring his 50 years of service in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.

Individuals and institutions who excelled in various fields were felicitated at the function. The awardees included Geetha Suresh Advani, Vice Chairperson of Smita Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Thodupuzha; Dr VR Rajendran, Managing Director of Nirmal Biogen Technology, Kumily; Roy Thomas Kadaplakkal, Head of Mathematics Department, Brilliant Study Centre, Pala; Dr C Padmakumar, Orthopaedic Surgeon; Dr K Soman, educationist and entrepreneur; Binu Elavumoottil, cardamom farmer and Khadi and Village Industries Commission member; Mohanan Nair, Manager, SDUPS Ponkunnam; KB Shine, best dairy farmer; and MP Sudheesh, best dairy development officer.
