KOCHI: The widely popular digital payment system will be implemented at the ration shops across the state within a month. Payment can be made by scanning the QR code on the smartphone. About 40 percent of the merchants have currently set up this facility on their own.
The project will include them in the same network. A bank will be appointed for this purpose. Negotiations with banks are in the final stage. The bank that accepts the best terms will be chosen. The payment will be credited to the respective merchant's account. Customers can opt for cash payment as well.
The food department's plan is part of the complete digitalization of the operation of ration shops. Ration transactions were made online through e-POS machines, but cash transactions were not digitized. Supplyco outlets have a QR code system.
