THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has become the first state to set up its own CORS control centre with modern facilities to complete the digital re-survey within four years.

The centre is tasked with collecting, analyzing and disseminating the situational data from 28 CORS reference stations, established in all the districts, to the concerned centres. The centre was established at a cost of 5.49 crores in the Survey Directorate.

The progress of reserve works in the state is known at this centre in time. Surveyors can also monitor the information and operations of the tabs and tools provided. Land boundaries can be determined flawlessly. The central data collection system of the Central Survey Department is located at Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Survey information for all states is available here.

Method of Operation

1500 RTK rover machines based on navigation satellites are used for timely completion of digital survey work. It has the most accurate technology based on latitude and longitude.

Small interference with navigation signals can affect the positioning accuracy of the rover receiver. Obstacles such as trees and concrete buildings can cause signals to scatter. CORS stations are responsible for providing data to correct minor errors caused by this. These stations are controlled by the control centre. From survey mapping to agriculture and transportation, the CORS network can be used for many purposes.
