THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains have been predicted in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. Isolated heavy rains are predicted. Heavy rains are defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
Heavy rains are likely to lash in the coming days. Yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow (Thursday) and in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Friday.
Meantime, according to the India Meteorological Department, the state has received 53% more rainfall so far, with the monsoon having reached Kerala a month ago. As usual, more rainfall has been received in northern districts like Kasaragod, Kannur and Kozhikode. According to IMD, Kannur (1432 mm) district received the most rainfall. According to the irrigation department, Kasaragod (1647 mm) district recorded the most rainfall.
