PALAKKAD: The fight for Palakkad will be tougher for congress candidate Rahul Mamkootathil as two namesake candidates have also entered the election fray. Rahul R and Rahul Manalazhi have filed nominations for the elections.

Rahul R, a native of Moothanthara, admitted to his BJP leanings. However, he clarified that it was his personal wish to contest and was not in any way aiding the saffron party. However, the district BJP leadership dismissed any connection with Rahul.

Rahul Manalazhi, a native of Kannadi, said that he was fighting to win and was not betting his chances as a namesake candidate. At the same time, the UDF camp released photos of Rahul Manalazhi with LDF candidate Sarin. The Congress alleges that he is a member of the Karakurussi branch of CPM.

Vinesh, convenor of the Kannadi Panchayat UDF campaign committee, said that Rahul Manalazhi filed the nomination as per CPM order. However, CPM leadership denied the rumours.
