Drishya murder case accused Vineesh escapes from Kuthiravattom mental health center

MALAPPURAM: Vineesh Vinod, the accused in the Drishya murder case in Perinthalmanna escaped from Kuthiravattom mental health centre. He fled from the centre at around 11 pm last night. Drishya, a 21-year-old LLB student, was murdered in June 2021.


Vineesh is an undertrial prisoner. He was admitted to the Kuthiravattom mental health centre in Kozhikode after he expressed mental issues. He escaped by drilling the wall of the toilet in the third ward of the hospital. A search conducted after he went missing in his cell around 11 pm, the wall was found drilled. The accused had earlier attempted suicide in jail. A widespread search was conducted in the area for him. He had escaped from the mental health centre in 2022 also. The locals later caught him from Dharmasthala in Karnataka and handed him over to the police.


Vineesh stabbed Drishya, daughter of C K Balachandran of Elamkulam to death in June 2021. The case is that he sneaked into her house and stabbed the girl while she was asleep for rejecting his marriage proposal. The accused was taken into custody on the same day of the incident.

Drishya was a third-year LLB student at Lakkidi Nehru Academy of Law College in Ottapalam. He also set ablaze the toys shop of Drishya's father. After committing the murder, the accused fled the scene and tried to escape in an auto, but the driver managed to take him to the station and handed him over to the police.
