THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department will provide digital licenses on the testing ground itself after passing the driving test. Minister K.B. Ganeshkumar said that the Motor Vehicle Inspectors on duty at the test ground will be given tabs for this. Currently, the license is obtained when the officers reach the office after completing the test and upload it on the website. Instead, a facility is being provided to upload the license from the test ground itself. The digital license will reach the phone even before the person who passes the test leaves the ground.
Kiosks will be set up for services including license renewal. This will be done at railway stations and shopping malls in collaboration with private agencies. The plan is to print the license and RC through kiosks.
The internal vigilance system is also under consideration to be started in the Motor Vehicles Department. Vigilance will examine the file movement related to services. No file should be pending for more than five days. If that happens, action will be taken against the officials.
'Driving test reform: No compromise'
'There is no compromise in the driving test reform. If anyone misunderstood that there would be such a relaxation, they were mistaken,' the minister said. 'We have only given time to prepare the grounds according to the new test methods. The government is moving forward with the reform. The current 'H' method will all change. A special number will be given to the vehicles of driving schools. The tendency to rent out the vehicle after registering it in the name of any driving school will not be allowed. The fare chart should be displayed in autorickshaws and only the fare in it should be charged. Otherwise, action will be taken.
