Dynastic politics in RSP again? Move to field N K Premachandran's son in Eravipuram

KOLLAM: Son of RSP leader N K Premachandran is following his father’s footsteps in the political arena. Reports say the move to field Karthik Premachandran in Eravipuram constituency is active at the party level. There are also hints that unofficial discussions have taken place in this regard. Karthik Premachandran is assistant professor in the mechanical engineering department of TKM Engineering College in Kollam. However, he has not expressed interest in contesting. In the last election, Babu Divakaran, son of RSP leader and former minister T K Divakaran was the UDF candidate in Eravipuram.

It is learned that the party unanimously decided to field Karthik. If so, he may be ready to contest. N K Premachandran is of the stand that the party's decision is vital and that he will not demand seat for his son.

A section of the party and the UDF believe that the allegation that Karthik Premachandran was made to contest as part of children’s politics will not be heard when fielded. Karthik was the one who led Premachandran's campaigns in all three Lok Sabha elections. Karthik was active in Chavara for Shibu Baby John and in the last local body elections. Karthik is a known face in the district, not just as Premachandran's son. They calculate that the constituency lost can be regained through Karthik.

However, fielding Karthik will only strengthen the allegation that only dynastic politics exists in the RSP. They say that other leaders who are influential among the people should be considered.
