Drill bit penetrates body during hip surgery; Complaint filed against private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A shocking medical negligence was reported at Jubilee Memorial Hospital in Palayam. The incident occurred during a hip surgery. The drill bit penetrated the patient during the surgery to increase blood flow. The drill bit fractured the left hip of Jijin Jose, a native of Malayinkeezhu.

The Cantonment police registered a case based on Jijin's complaint. Hospital authorities responded by saying that the patient was informed that there is no need for concern in the case. However, it was deemed that the drill bit could not be removed.
