THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the official announcement of the Kerala Assembly election schedule on March 15, 2026, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has activated its primary digital monitoring systems—cVIGIL and Suvidha 2.0. These tools are designed to ensure the single-phase polling on April 9 is conducted with maximum transparency and efficiency.
cVIGIL: Reporting in Real-Time
The cVIGIL app remains the cornerstone of citizen-led election oversight.
100-Minute Deadline: Contrary to previous reports of a 60-minute window, the ECI guarantees action within 100 minutes of a complaint being filed.
Live Evidence Only: To prevent the use of old or fake photos, the app only allows users to capture live photos and videos. It automatically geo-tags the location, allowing Flying Squads to reach the exact spot within minutes.
Public Access: Anyone can download the app from the Play Store or Apple App Store to report Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations like illegal banners, bribery, or the distribution of liquor.
Suvidha 2.0: A Single Window for Candidates
For the 2026 elections, the ECI has transitioned to Suvidha 2.0, a significantly upgraded version of the original app.
End-to-End Digital Process: While the previous version was primarily for tracking, Suvidha 2.0 allows candidates and parties to apply for permissions (rallies, vehicles, loudspeakers) directly through their mobile devices.
First-In, First-Out (FIFO): The system operates on a strict FIFO principle to eliminate bias or delays in granting permissions.
Status Tracking: Candidates can track their nomination status and download approved order copies digitally, reducing the need for physical visits to government offices.
