
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the heat intensifying, electricity consumption in the state has reached record highs. Yesterday evening, the power demand rose to a record 6,012 megawatts. On Monday, it was 5,933 megawatts. The KSEB has urged the public to cooperate by reducing usage during peak hours. The total electricity consumption yesterday was 11.5187 million units, the highest so far this month. Of this, 87.4238 million units were purchased from outside the state. Power generation, including from hydroelectric plants, was 25.09 million units.
Meanwhile, Kerala continues to experience extreme heat even on the day of Vishu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that from today until the 19th, temperatures may rise up to 40°C in Palakkad, 39°C in Kollam, and 38°C in Kottayam. In Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, temperatures may reach up to 37°C. In Thiruvananthapuram, the maximum temperature is expected to touch 36°C.
