THRISSUR: The elephant found with severe head injury on its forehead in Athirapilly has been tranquilized. It was shot four times. One of it hit the elephant's back leg. Veterinary Surgeon Dr B B Giridas said treatment for the elephant has started.

‘It was doubtful how long the injuries would be life-threatening for the elephant. I am very happy to know that the injury is not deep. The mission has been completely successful. There are no branches of tree or metal parts in the injury,' he clarified.

It is believed that the elephant was injured in a clash with other elephants. The elephant had been in this area since January 15. The forest department decided to treat the injured elephant after seeing it regularly.
