MALAPPURAM: Calicut University VC P Raveendran said it was unacceptable to exclude rapper Vedan’s songs from the syllabus of the university on the grounds of the singer’s past addiction to alcohol and banned substances. The response comes after a complaint was received demanding the exclusion of rapper Vedan’s song from the syllabus.
P RAVEENDRAN:
“Some are demanding the exclusion of Vedan’s song from the syllabus, blaming the rapper’s drinking habits. If that is the case, then nobody will be able to study John Abraham's movie or Ayyappan's poem. Why not, even you won’t be able to watch Mohanlal’s movies. Art and artists are different. A committee has been appointed under the leadership of Dr. MM Basheer to study the complaints. Action will be taken after the report comes. Myopic views on this topic will not be entertained.
Rapper Vedan’s ‘Bhoomi Njan Vazhunidam’ song was earlier included in the BA Malayalam fourth semester textbook of Calicut University. The syllabus includes a comparative study between the song 'They Don't Care About Us' by famous pop singer Michael Jackson and Vedan's song. The study is based on a comparison between American rap music and Malayalam rap music.
