ALAPPUZHA: A farmer was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with the electric fence laid to trap wild boars at Charummoodu. The dead is Sivankutty K Pillai (63) of Thamarakulam. The incident happened Monday morning at 9 am. The accident happened when he was on his way to his agricultural land. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Four lost their lives this year from wild boar traps. The death of tenth class student Ananthu of Nilambur was widely discussed. He lost his life in the trap set by hunter Vineesh. Two died in January. The death of an old man by falling into a pond in Shornur later proved that he was electrocuted. He was identified as Kunjan of Paruthipra. Sankaranarayanan of Paruthipra, the land owner was arrested in the case.
Soman (52), a farmer of Ambalathumbhagam Chirayil House in Sasthamcotta was electrocuted in January. Gopi (69) of Dinil Bhavan in Poruvazhy Ambalathumbhagam and Shashi (70) of Kaniyakuzhy House were arrested. Mohanan of Palakad Kanjikode and his son Anirudh died in last November when they went to water their fields. Many animals, including tigers, tigresses, and elephants, have also died after being electrocuted by the wild boar traps.
