Father confirms harassment in Neyyattinkara suicide case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The statement of Chandran, the husband of the woman who immolated along with her daughter Vaishnavi at Neyyattinkara, recorded by the police has been revealed. A sorcery was performed in the house last week, my mother was against the sale of the house and a dispute broke out on that, Chandran said. Meantime, the sorcerer who stays nearby has been identified, the police said. He will be taken into custody soon.

The police decided to charge more offences on Chandran, his mother Krishnamma, her sister Shantha and husband Kashi apart from abetment to suicide. The Neyyattinkara district sessions court remanded the four for 14 days. The police will seek their custody for more interrogation. In the meanwhile, four including Canara Bank chief manager filed an anticipatory bail plea.

The suicide note of the woman recovered mentioned abuse, dowry and sorcery as the reason to take the extreme step. Apart from the note, Lekha and her daughter Vaishnavi had written on the wall that the four were responsible for their death.

Chandran had not done anything even after getting the notice from the bank. Instead the notice was kept at the ‘Althara’ near their house and conducted poojas. The note has alleged that she was continuously harassed in the name of dowry.
