THRISSUR: Revenue Minister K Rajan has said that the news that the financial assistance provided to the victims of the Wayanad Chooralmalai disaster ended in December is false. The minister added that the assistance will continue until the date of rehabilitation of the victims. He was responding to the issue at a press conference.

'The government had decided to provide Rs 300 per day to two senior members of a family for three months using the money from the Disaster Relief Fund, in the event that the livelihood of the disaster victims was disrupted. This money has been given since August 2024. Later, this amount was given for another three months.

First, this amount was given to all the people who participated in the camp. After that, the deserving people who were suffering without a means of livelihood were identified, and the amount was given. The money was given to 1185 people in 656 families. The order for the amount to be given in the month of January will be issued soon.

The state government spent Rs 15.64 crore on providing financial assistance alone. To help those who lost their homes and were living in rented houses, 813 people were given Rs 6,000 each in August 2024. Later, some returned to their own homes. The remaining 425 people were given rent money in December as well. The government has not reduced its efforts to help people till now," the minister said.
