THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More details emerged in the death of BJP councillor Anil Kumar. The Assistant Registrar found irregularities in the Farm Tour Society, of which Anil Kumar was the president. The Cooperative Department also confirmed a financial crisis at the institution.
The report states that interest was paid to investors in violation of government regulations, resulting in society incurring huge financial loss. The Poojappura police are currently investigating Anil Kumar's death. There may be an investigation at the DYSP level.
The investigation team has recorded the statements of some of Anil Kumar's friends. According to close sources, Anil was in severe mental distress due to the financial obligations of society and often skipped meals in the last few weeks. Anil's phone call details are also being examined.
Anil Kumar ended his life a few days back in distress over the financial obligations taking a toll on his life. In his suicide note, Anil lamented not receiving any help from the party members to end the crisis. He also asked not to torture his family over the crisis in society.
BJP leader VV Rajesh had earlier dismissed reports of financial irregularities in the society but admitted that there were a few issues over certain people not repaying loans on time.
