THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government enforced the local bodies to implement the Supreme Court verdict on the stray dog issue.
The directive is to find a suitable place to relocate stray dogs caught from educational institutions, hospitals, railway stations and bus stands. The steps should be completed immediately. ABC surgeries should continue. It has been decided to increase the number of portable ABC centres.
A meeting will be called after the local body elections to discuss the steps taken. The Chief Secretary will then submit the matter to the Supreme Court. The court will consider it on January 13.
Facilities should be provided to confine dogs. Fencing should be installed. Facilities should be provided to feed the dogs. A person should be appointed to cook food for the dogs. The money should be found through sponsorship or from own funds. ABC surgeries and vaccinations should be carried out without interruption.
There are 19 ABC centres in the state. However, there are no ABC centres in districts including Wayanad, Malappuram and Kasaragod. Therefore, it has been decided to set up at least 20 portable ABC centres. Portable centres will be brought to all 153 blocks, dogs will be caught, and surgery will be performed.
