KOCHI: The company that was excluded from the contract for serving food infested with worms and cockroaches in the Vande Bharat train in Kerala is a subsidiary of Brindavan Food Products Group. Brindavan Food Products Group was earlier shut down for providing unhygienic food in Kochi. These companies, including those in Delhi, are the railway catering monopolies.

There is no shortage of complaints, even against the agencies that were given temporary responsibility to serve food in the train. IRCTC is in talks to give contracts to companies in Kerala. Brindavan is the food supplier in all Vande Bharat trains in South India. The railways themselves gave the contract to Brindavan directly at Ernakulam South Station. They will give it to small contractors. The food was prepared by migrant workers in a stinking building in Elamkulam in the city. The contract continued for a long time even after the Corporation Health Department closed the kitchen on May 14th.

The leader in the railway catering industry for decades has been Delhi-based RK Associates. They operate IRCTC's tourist trains. R.K., along with Brindavan, Roop's Foods, and Satyam Foods, manage the food distribution. No matter which government is in power, the contract will only end up in their hands.

Samridhi Kitchen, a Kudumbashree initiative of Kochi Corporation, has been awarded the contract to supply food on four trains in Ernakulam. These are Jan Shatabdi, Parasuram, Intercity and Venad trains. Delicious food will be available at affordable prices. Online orders will soon be accepted through the Railways' Madad app (RailMadad).

You can file a complaint with IRCTC or the Railways. You can also directly talk to the TTE and catering staff. Passengers can also rely on the Madad app.
