Four cops suspended in Govindachamy’s case, detailed probe to be conducted, says jail head

KANNUR: Four officials of Kannur Central Jail have been suspended pending investigation in connection with the escape of Govindachamy. Jail chief Balram Kumar Upadhyay said a serious lapse is there from their side. Kannur Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Rijo, deputy prison officer Rajeesh and assistant prison officers Sanjay and Akhil are those suspended.

Jail chief said Govindachamy jumped jail with an accurate plan. There was a lapse on the part of the jail officials in the incident. No one is being blamed now. It is a relief that he was caught soon. Kannur Range DIG will investigate the incident in detail. Late to know the information. Searched the jail first. He escaped from the jail at around 4:30 pm. He said that it is a relief that the police were able to catch him soon, even though there was a delay on the side of the police to inform about the incident.
