Gold pedestal missing from Sabarimala recovered from sponsor’s kin’s house

PATHANAMTHITTA: The gold pedestal, which is part of the Dwarapalaka idols that went missing from Sabarimala, has been found. The pedestal was recovered from the house of a relative of the sponsor Unnikrishnan Potty, who filed the complaint. The investigation conducted by the Devaswom Vigilance led to a turning point. The gold pedestal will be moved to the strong room and a report will be submitted in the high court.

Unnikrishnan Potty's crucial revelation came amidst Sabarimala gold plated sheets controversy. He said another pedestal had been built and provided for the Dwarpalaka idols.

‘A second pedestal was made for the idols. The pedestal was made using three sovereigns of gold. When the color of the first pedestals faded, a new one was made. However, the Devaswom informed that there was a difference in the weight. Since it was given as an offering, it was not asked to return. Believed that it would be in the strong room. However, it is not clear where the pedestal is now. When it was taken for repair, there was a query about the pedestal. A reply was not obtained. Let the vigilance investigation go on,’ he said.

Mystery in complaint
The vigilance suspects that there is mystery in the allegations of Unnikrishnan Potty. The pedestal was initially kept in the house of a worker named Vasudevan. The pedestal was in the living room of his house since 2021. After the court intervened in the incident, he handed over the pedestal back to Unnikrishnan Potty. Unnikrishnan Potty moved the pedestal to his sister's house on September 13.
