THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC is gearing up to replace its old Super Fast and Fast Passenger buses ahead of Onam. Last month, pictures of Tata’s new Super Fast and Fast Passenger buses were released. Following this, Ashok Leyland’s new 10.5-meter chassis Fast Passenger Link buses will also soon hit the roads. These buses are built with Prakash Vega bodies, made by a well-known bus body manufacturer.
The design of these buses is in the Kathakali style, similar to KSRTC’s Hi-Tech Super Fast buses. Feedback suggests that KSRTC has overcome the complaints received about the design of the first batch of buses.
The buses have a 3.8-litre H-Series four-cylinder Turbo DI engine, producing 150 PS power and 450 Nm torque. The transmission is a six-speed overdrive gearbox, with a cable-shift system and an air-assisted clutch. KSRTC will introduce 100 new buses, including sleeper and mini buses. From August 22 to 24, the public can view these new buses at a vehicle exhibition, which will feature major vehicle manufacturers.
Pictures of Leyland’s 13.5-meter sleeper-cum-seater bus, built on a 13.5-meter chassis with a Prakash Capella body, have also been released. This bus has a design inspired by the tricolour flag.
