KANNUR: Govindachamy, who was caught after escaping from Kannur Central Jail, will be shifted to the high-security prison in Viyyur. Govindachamy escaped from his cell at around 1:15 am. It is clear from the CCTV footage in the jail that he reached the wall here by roaming through the quarantine block. He then made a rope using clothes and threw it at the fencing above the wall. He later jumped the wall through this. It is clear that he took several days to collect the cloth to tie the rope. The accused, who was hiding in the well of Kumar Building in Thalap, was caught by the police at around 10.30 am.
Four officers of the Kannur Central Jail have been suspended pending investigation in connection with Govindachamy's jailbreak. Jail chief Balram Kumar Upadhyay responded that there was a lapse from the side of the prison officials. Kannur Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Rijo, Deputy Prison Officer Rajish and Assistant Prison Officers Sanjay and Akhil are those suspended.
Jail chief said Govindachamy escaped from the prison after accurate planning. There was a lapse on the part of the prison officials in the incident. No one can be blamed now.
