KOLLAM: The ministers visited Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam, where the student was electrocuted. They later visited the victim’s house. Education Minister V Sivankutty and Minister K N Balagopal visited the student's house.

Mithun (13), an eighth-class student, died yesterday after he was electrocuted when grabbed the electric line while trying to retrieve his friend’s slipper which had fallen on the roof of the cycle shed. Midhun was the eldest son of Manu of Manu Bhavan in Vilanthra and Suja. The ministers spoke to Midhun’s father. Minister Sivankutty said the government is with Midhun.

In the meanwhile, the activists of the youth wing of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RYF) waved black flags at the minister while returning from the school. The police removed the protestors from the spot.

Education Minister V Sivankutty had earlier demanded that the headmistress be suspended in the incident. A show-cause notice was served to the school management, demanding an explanation within three days.

‘The headmistress of the school should be suspended immediately. It should be done by the management. If they failed to do it, the government will take action. None of these are bigger than the life of a child. The management should urgently consider providing financial assistance to the child's family. They don’t have a house of their own. They have only one cent of land. The government has the right to take action against the school management as well,' clarified the minister.

Meantime, Midhun's mother Suja, who is abroad, will reach the state tomorrow and then he will be cremated. The body will be kept in the school for public homage from 10 am tomorrow. The boy’s mother Suja is presently in Turkey.
