THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar said that the government will soon provide the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) to employees of KSRTC. He said the Transport Department has started serious efforts to arrange the required funds. The minister also said he has discussed the issue of providing the eligible DA to employees with the Chief Minister.
Ganesh Kumar said the government is trying to arrange funds in any possible way to grant the long-pending DA demanded by employees. Since KSRTC currently does not have enough funds to provide the allowance, the department has sought financial assistance from the government. He added that when he discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, he assured that the issue could be discussed with Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal.
The minister also pointed out that it was a major achievement to change the earlier system where salaries were paid in instalments. Now salaries are being paid in full on the first day of the month. As the next step, the government hopes to resolve employees’ concerns by providing the pending DA as well, he said. The minister also noted that the government is examining whether the allowance can be distributed before the upcoming state assembly elections.
