Heavy rain in five panchayats including Meppadi in Wayanad, flash floods are likely; public urged to exercise caution

KALPETTA: Heavy rains continue to lash Wayanad, which was devastated by landslides two weeks ago. Five panchayats, including Meppadi and Moopainad where the landslides occurred, are receiving very heavy rainfall. The highest rainfall was recorded in Meppadi and Moopainad. The highest rainfall was recorded in Meppadi and Moopainad. Weather experts said that 100 mm of rain was recorded in Kadachikunnu and Vaduvanchal areas within three hours. Heavy rain continues in Kurumbalakotta too. Meanwhile, weather forecasters have warned that flash floods are likely in various parts of the district.

Meanwhile, The India Meteorogical Department (IMD) has warned that 12 districts in Kerala are likely to receive heavy rain in the coming hours. An orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram districts. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts.
