KASARAGOD: Kasaragod district has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, tomorrow. The holiday also applies to tuition centers, anganwadis and madrasas but model residential schools are exempt. The decision was announced by District Collector Impasekhar as a precautionary measure, following the issuance of a red alert for the district today and an orange alert for tomorrow.
As of today, a red alert remains in effect across five districts in Kerala: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod and Kannur, where the Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad districts. The department has also issued an orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow.
The Meteorological Department has cautioned that extremely heavy rains could lead to hazards such as flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in urban and low-lying areas. The risk of landslides in hilly regions is particularly high and the public is advised to stay vigilant, especially in areas prone to such incidents. Additionally, a ban on fishing along the Kerala coast remains in effect due to the adverse weather conditions.
