THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain will continue in the state today. This is due to the formation of a new low pressure in the North Bay of Bengal. Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert today. A low-pressure area is also located from Gujarat coast to North Kerala coast. As a result of its impact, the rain is expected to continue for the next two days.

Fishing is banned in Karnataka coast today due to high waves and possibility of sea attack. However, the IMD also informed that there is no disruption to fishing in Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts. A lightning alert has also been issued in the state today.

Thunderstorm warning
A lightning warning has also been issued. Lightning can cause burns, loss of vision, hearing or heart attack. It should be understood that there is no electric current in the body of a person who has been struck by lightning. So don't hesitate to give first aid. The first 30 seconds of a lightning strike are life-saving moments.

Move to a safe building immediately at the first sign of lightning. Do not stand in open areas.

Keep the window and door closed. Do not stand near doors and windows.

Unplug household appliances.

Do not use the telephone during thunderstorms. Mobile phone usage is not a problem.

Do not stand under trees. Do not park vehicles under trees.

Stay inside the vehicle during lightning. Don't put your legs out. Avoid traveling on vehicles like bicycles, bikes, tractors etc.

Do not go to the terrace or yard to take clothes.

Avoid bathing during thunderstorms. Electricity from lightning may travel through the pipe.

Do not tie domestic animals in the open.

If you are in an open place where you cannot move to a nearby building, keep your feet together and tuck your head and legs between your knees and roll up like a ball.
Lightning protection conduit can be installed above the buildings.
