Heavy rain with thunder and lightning predicted, various districts warned; land and mudslides likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain has been predicted at isolated places in the state. Yellow alert has been issued in two districts today. There is a possibility of thunderstorms. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of light rain in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur in the next three hours. There is a possibility of landslides, floods and mudslides and should relocate as per the instructions of the authorities.


The IMD said that rain will continue in the coming days. Orange alert has been declared in Palakkad and Malappuram tomorrow. Yellow alert has been declared in Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Orange alert in Pathanamthitta and Idukki and yellow alert in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Monday.
Orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram and yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Tuesday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam are on yellow alert on Wednesday.


People living in danger zones should be cautious as there is a possibility of severe storm surge along various coasts. Should relocate if necessary. Fishing equipment should be kept safely.

Residents of unsecured homes and those living in homes with weak roofs should be prepared to evacuate based on the warnings in the coming days. The Meteorological Center warned that under no circumstances should one cross river, bathe in rivers or other bodies of water, fish or do other purposes in the event of heavy rains.


Viewing, taking selfies or congregating on the overpasses above water bodies is not allowed. Residents living downstream of the dams should make preparations in anticipation of the possibility of water overflowing from the dams and evacuate, if necessary, as per the instructions of the authorities. Avoid night travel to hilly areas completely.


The IMD has informed that there should be no fishing in south Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts from tomorrow till Wednesday.
