Heavy rains predicted in two districts along with rough seas; yellow alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely in Kerala. Yellow alert has been issued in two districts. Yellow alert is in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. Isolated heavy rains are predicted. Heavy rains mean that there will be 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours.

A low-pressure area has formed near Sri Lanka in the southwest Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation is present in the southeast Arabian Sea near the south Kerala coast. The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of isolated heavy rain in Kerala till Wednesday in this situation. A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki tomorrow, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts the day after tomorrow and for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts on Tuesday.

Swell Surge Alert

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a high wave alert for the Kerala coast, warning of rough seas and high waves (0.2 to 1.0 meters) due to the swell surge phenomenon, which will continue along the Kerala coast until 11:30 pm tomorrow. Additionally, the Kanyakumari district coast (from Neerody to Arockiapuram) is expected to experience rough seas with waves ranging from 0.8 to 1.3 meters until 11:30 pm tonight. Coastal residents and fishermen are advised to exercise extreme caution and follow local authority guidelines.
